CERAKOTE

Developed by NIC Industries, Cerakote is a liquid ceramic coating that bonds to a wide variety of materials to provide an ultra-thin, hard, stable layer that resists abrasion, corrosion, chemicals and even ultra-violet radiation from the sun. Once applied, Cerakote provides a layer that is just .001 to .002 inches in thickness. A piece of paper is .004 inches thick. Since the coating is so thin, the function of even precision parts is unhindered and any patterned surfaces, including checkering and engraving, continue to show through.

NIC Industries has subjected this material to a wide range of tests, using ASTM Standard testing methodologies:
- Exceeds 9h scratch and gouge hardness (ASTM D33630)
- Taber abrasion greater than 8000 wear cycles per mil (ASTM D4060)
- Corrosion resistance more than 3000 hours (ASTM B117)
- Direct and indirect impact resistance of 160 in-lbs. (ASTM D2794)
- 0mm coating loss at 180* mandrel bend (ASTM D522)
- Coefficient of Friction rivaling Teflon at 0.11 (Steady-State Dynamic Coefficient of Friction Under Load)
